“There were a lot more dark things in the original design,” Popovich says. It might seem cruel, but if you read the game’s lore, this process simply returns them back to the land where they’re free to happily bounce around again as if nothing happened. If you’re feeling mischievous or you need to free up inventory space, you can launch slimes right into it. The first Slime Rancher’s Far, Far Range is surrounded on all sides by The Slime Sea, an expanse of slimy water that, unlike pink slime, hasn’t been labeled fit for human consumption. It wasn’t conspicuous, but rather mixed in like a pink paste in a pack of lean mince. While it might surprise you to find out these cute cartoon blobs were inspired by actual meat juice, the original Slime Rancher design during development was underpinned with anti-capitalist satire and had much darker themes. “Pink Slimes are a reference to that meat filler,” Slime Rancher 2 game director Nick Popovich tells FTW. They’re pink (obviously) and have such happy little faces. They’re the most common slime variant you come across. In Slime Rancher – a 2016 game about farming gelatinous, sentient blobs by sucking them up with a vacuum gun and firing them into pens – Pink Slimes are adorable. The mushy remains are then mixed with mince to help butchers hit the target fat content in their tasty food products for human beings. This slime – “lean, finely textured beef (LFTB)” – is created from fatty offcuts that are heated up to remove the flab. It’s not the kind of thing you’d order in a restaurant, but if you’ve eaten ground beef in the States, you’ve almost certainly slurped some down. The last three can only be found within the Glass Desert, but Rock plorts are very common.Pink slime. Each set of statues only needs one type of plort and they are Rock, Dervish, Tangle, and Mosaic. These statues will once again need the player to shoot a specific plort into them in order to reactivate them. In order to get water from these fountains, the player has to look around until they find three statues in the immediate area. There are four different fountains, which are tucked away in different corners of the area and each one is inactive when the player comes across them. The first thing that the player will need to do is track down Ancient Water Fountains spread throughout the desert. The issue is getting the Oases activated is a pretty difficult task. Once these Oases are activated the player is able to obtain some of the highest quality resources in the game and get their hands on some of the best slimes that are available in Slime Rancher. Oases are little hubs inside of the desert that contain food and water, which in turn spawn a series of different slimes for the player to acquire. These objects are called Oasis Buds and by activating them the player can create an Oasis. The problem is that the gate is locked and there is no spot for a key to unlock it. By going left from here the player will be able to enter the Moss Blanket area, but straight ahead is a massive stone gate that will lead to the Ancient Ruins. The player will need to use Slime Key (acquired by feeding a Gordo Slime until they burst) to open this door which then leads to an area called the Transition. In order to make it to the Ancient Ruins, the player will need to make their way all the way through the Indigo Quarry area until they come across a locked door. The very first thing that players will need to do in order to make their way to the Glass Desert is first to be able to unlock the Ancient Ruins area of the map, which in and of itself is no easy feat since it is the last area on the main part of the map. Getting to the Glass Desert is very tricky because the player will need to acquire several keys, solve a couple of different puzzles, and navigate one of the more confusing locations in the entire game. This guide shows players how to make it to the Glass Desert and how to activate the Oases. Once the player does arrive though they are then tasked with activating new objects called Oases that will require some work on the player's part. This area exists separately from the rest of the map and the game doesn't exactly give any indication on how to get there. Without a doubt, the most difficult and most interesting areas of the game for the player to track down though is The Glass Desert. It feels as though every time the player turns the corner they won't know quite what else is going to pop up, and as soon as they think they have seen all the things Slime Rancher has to offer another new slime or location is thrown into the mix. Players have the opportunity to explore a very large and diverse world throughout the course of Slime Rancher.
